Connelly Decision and Ramifications

When family-owned or other closely held companies experience a major shareholder event, such as death, divorce, or retirement of a shareholder, it can jeopardize the future and stability of the enterprise. When these triggering events occur, it’s important to have protective strategies in place to support a seamless transition of ownership. This session will discuss developing or revisiting buy-sell agreements with a discussion of recent court cases, including Connelly v. United States.

This presentation will discuss partnership planning ideas that: (i) address common and identifiable client situations, (ii) are understandable, straightforward, and actionable; and (iii) provide superior results for clients.

Now What? Planning in a Post-Election, Pre-Sunset World

How will the new Congress and the White House handle the scheduled sunset of most of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act? Is there any appetite for enacting other reform proposals like excluding social security benefits and tip income? This closing session will explain how the legislative process will affect tax legislation and when we can expect final legislation to be enacted. It will also discuss some planning ideas that clients should consider in the current climate.
